Project 365: Week 11

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Today we took an afternoon walk and met a few new neighbors. We have quite a lot of kids on our street, which is very exciting especially since spring is right around the corner.

Seems we're a bit behind on our reading... This is two weeks worth of Sunday papers. Untouched.

Two Tired on Tuesday. (How about that alliteration?)

Because of the position of the sun in the sky right now, and because the nursery has an arch at the top of the window that is not covered, look what I have to do to keep the sun off Atticus's face!

If you'll remember, we've had a shattered refrigerator shelf since before CHRISTmas. We've been dealing with the FUN of stacking stuff all this time. Ugh. Well, after finding out that a new shelf would cost us upwards of $80-90, Paul called Frigidaire's customer service department and told them what happened. And look what came today!! They sent us one free of charge. Yes, ma'am! It never hurts to ask. I'm a very relieved mama to be able to organize my fridge easier.

When Mommy's happy, everybody's happy. Look! Some of us even did a little happy dance.

It was my turn to provide the meal for the Pre-K through 2nd grade teachers at Homeschool Academy. I made chili to go along with a "chuck wagon" theme. Mrs. Boykin (the teacher I help) brought the dessert and some "crunchies." It just so happened to be the day that the kids were having a cowboy-themed music program. Nice how that worked out, huh?

My "tablescape," as Sandra Lee would have called it, was actually a lot of fun to throw together. I pretty much decided on the whole theme based on the fact that I had this checkered tablecloth and the fact that my mom suggested I make chili, since it's easy. Sounded good to me! I dug in the attic and found a lantern Paul and I bought on our honeymoon.

Then I found a list of cowboy sayings online and picked a few cute ones. They are printed (in a Western font) on regular copy paper, which I crumpled up, smoothed back out, and chalked with a brown pastel. I grabbed a bag of peanuts and sprinkled them all around the table. Funny how "sprinklings" like that always add so much flair!

Atticus's horsie joined the fun as well and seemed to enjoy himself...all day!

And here was my very own little cowboy waiting to "go on" at the program. "Whoopi-ti-yi-o, get along, little doggies."

Today I caught the most precious impromptu moment. (I promise, nobody asked Gabriel to help. He just jumped right in there.)

Saturday, March 13, 2010

This morning Paul took three children with him to get some repair work done on our car. I mostly rested up before the "Consignor's Only" sale at Rhea Lana. I intended to get a lot done, but I was just beat. Still am, frankly. Anyway, I thought for today I'd share photos of my kefir grains. (If you don't know of what I speak, then click the link and read, my friend.) They're growing like crazy!

What do you think? Look yummy? ;)

Alrighty-roo! Now I think I'll just head over to
Sara's and check in with everybody else on the project. Bye for now!

  1. I am laughing so hard! A mama will go to great measures to ensure that her baby sleeps through his entire naptime!!!! How funny. I love your blog because your lifestyle reminds me of my own about 10 years ago. I was never as creative as you, however! And that Kefir does not look like the kefir we buy in the grocery store (we're big fans). Show us how it turns out. :)

  5. I grow Kefir every week. Had no idea it had a name or that anyone did it intentionally. Mine happens when a sippy of milk gets left in the minivan...
Please tell me your fridge is new and that's why they sent you a shelf. We also have a fridgidaire and the runner holding up the glass shelf and the drawer beneath it broke. I ordered a new one for $35 (just the runner, not the glass shelf or the drawer). I also got a new shelf for the door. Pulling on the shelf to close the fridge cause door shelf to break.

The tablescape is fantastic and I will heed the advice not to squat while wearing spurs. :)

  8. Lori - your sleeping children are precious! As mine have gotten older, I miss things like that... guess I will have to wait for grandkids. Really liked your chuck wagon theme. My son's 16th birthday is coming up hmmmm... I may have to be a copycat!
