Well, so far I have ONE person interested in posting their menus.  :)  Maybe not every one out there even PLANS their menus. Well, let me encourage you: I went through a phase of planning years ago and loved it, but somehow got away from it--to the detriment of my family and my own sanity. I'm not going to lie to you. The actual planning part often makes me want to scream, but once it's done, it truly does help me keep things afloat throughout the week. The amazing "God's grace" part of it is that He has miraculously made me NOT freak out when the plan doesn't play out for whatever reason. When a snag arises, I've just been going with the flow. And for me?? That's saying something!  So the plan doesn't rule ME. It is my tool. And it can be yours, too.  ;)  Come, join the fun!!

Project 365: Week 11

Sunday, March 6, 2011

I always have trouble coming up with picture-worthy moments on Sundays. Anyone else have that problem? Today was especially hard, since I had to be at church early to sing this morning, then had to stay late for a meeting after church, and then we had community group this afternoon. With no picture amongst all those activities, Atticus graciously provided us with a video of him singing "Baby Beluga." (I apologize in advance for the cheese you may or may not see being chewed in his mouth while he sings.) Oh. And one more thing. We recorded this on Daddy's iPhone, which has "FaceTime," so Atticus could see himself the whole time...and he LOVED that!

Noah has discovered comics at the library. Though interested in Spiderman, I am trying to steer him clear of those, because...ahem...have you ever looked at them?! Scary images, busty women, and even mature content (talk of dating, talk of "innocence" or lack thereof, etc.). I was surprised. So for now (and hopefully for a very long time), we are sticking with Disney comics.  :)

Made soup for supper tonight. And had a little helper.

Waffles. Mmmm... These are made with whole grain millet and oats. No flour. Can't tell, can you?

Thursday, March 10, 2011

We had the privilege of hearing Jason Houser of Seeds Family Worship this morning. We are BIG FANS!!

Saylor even got to sing a song with him!!!
(Thanks, Mr. Bob!!!! That made her day!)

And Atticus tagged along, too. It just so happened to be HIS favorite song, so once he was aware of that fact, he toddled right on up to the stage, climbed up, and sang along!

(He actually knows the words, too! Mostly.)

Because we're without a family car, I've had to make arrangements all week long to get us to all our activities. We don't have THAT many, thank goodness. But today Saylor needed a ride to ballet, so a friend was kind enough to help out. She was so excited to ride with someone new!

Saturday, March 12, 2011

I took Noah and Gabe to a birthday party where they had a mega-fun jump house. Gabe got right in there with the big kids and held his own.

Then we left Noah at the party, met Daddy and the others, ran an errand, and went out for dinner at a nearby restaurant. Atticus needed to tend to some business. ;)

And it seems we have another sushi lover among us!!

That's our week! How was yours? I'm off to check out the group at Sara's and get to as many as I can before my time is up on this here 'puter. See ya!

What's in the Workbox For Little Guys?

Examples of Noah's workboxes are here and Saylor's are here, but my little guys hang out with us during school time as well. And it can get crazy fast. So I've been trying to plan activities they can choose from that serve two purposes: to keep them busy, while also providing them with opportunities to learn.

I have a variety of things available to them (manipulatives, puzzles, games, play dough, etc.), but it gets hairy when they're constantly asking for one thing or another. By the time I'm just getting settled into a rhythm with one of the big kids, a little will ask me for something different.

So I decided to make use of these shelves, which used to house toys...(Actually, they are shoe racks from Target stacked together.)...

...to be home to their "tot trays." Don't let the name fool you, though. When Saylor finishes her workboxes, her treat is time with the tot trays.  :)

Here are today's activities:

Pouring pegs from one container to another.

Creating with Magic Nuudles (cup of water for sticking the nuudles together)

Putting counters into a large container with a slit (good piggy bank practice, right?)
(BTW, I use film canisters to hold our counters. They hold exactly 20 two-sided counters.)

Lacing cards

Paper clips and a magnetic wand

Once they complete all the trays, they are allowed to play together with our Take Along Thomas trains and tracks (or something of that nature).

Yes, it takes a little effort to come up with activities for two little active boys, but it pays off in the long run to have them busy. Besides, it's good for my creative mind to look around the house for things they might enjoy doing. And it helps me to be involved and more purposeful where their day is concerned. Because they're worth it.
