Happy Birthday to my sweet Gabriel!!

We spent the afternoon celebrating at Jump!Zone.

And then we took him out to his favorite restaurant, where he opened his gifts.

Homemade dessert at home topped it all off.

He especially loved getting all the birthday wishes by phone.

We took a little trip to the E.R. this evening. Wanna know why?? Well, it all started out so innocently...Gabriel and I were working on a Fun Fusion beaded craft. 

It was going just fine when Gabriel lost control of one of the little plastic beads. It sort of stuck to his finger, then flew upward. And, as his little face was within two inches of the table, the bead went straight up into his nostril just as he was breathing in. He panicked and ran off without telling me what had happened. He figured he could get it out himself.

Ahem... Of course, he just made matters much, much worse. And, therefore, we needed professional assistance (and a really nifty invention) to remove the crazy thing.  

Thank you to Arkansas Children's Hospital for being awesome. We enjoyed the garden there afterwards.

Tonight Gabriel came running in after helping his daddy take out the trash. He was crying, "Special moon! Come see!" There was a thin layer of clouds in front of it, making it glow with a sort of hazy luminescence. I love that he noticed that.

Today is a big, big day. Gabriel's very favorite, most important friend is having her birthday party. Here she is with the special present Gabriel made for her. He didn't even know her birthday was coming up. He just wanted to make her something.

So her party was this morning...and then Gabriel's birthday party was this afternoon! (More to come.)

Free Movies in Little Rock 2012

Summer time around our house is about FUN for the family, certainly, but perhaps the higher priority for me, the self-proclaimed wimpy mommy, is finding ways to keep out of the heat. Those of you who know me well are probably not a bit surprised by that. <grin> So, the movie theater serves the purpose well. BUT I don't particularly relish the idea of paying the frighteningly-high total cost of getting my fam to the movies IF and IF there happens to be a movie we are okay with our kiddos watching. We did it for Toy Story 3. Totally worth it. Of course. But movies like that are few and far between. Right?

The good news for us frugal mamas is that a couple of Little Rock theaters do free summer film festivals, allowing us to give the children that whole "theater experience" without the painful cost...and IN the air conditioning. Win-win!

There are two participating theaters this year. Their schedules are listed below. Ya might want to check the pluggedinonline website for more information and reviews on each film. It is my very favorite site for helping us make informed decisions as to whether or not a movie is "for" our family.  Our family's summer film picks are denoted.
